Students’ progress at their own pace, according to their own abilities, and are encouraged to attend as often as their schedule allows. We offer age specific classes (4-6; 7-12; 13+ adult) as well as classes that allow families to train together. Our classes provide quality martial arts instruction for men, women, and children as young as age 4, and older adults of all ages.
Our certified rank Black Belt Instructor team consists of ten black belt instructors, who each have been training from 10-35 years in Kuk Sool Won™, and who are committed to helping students succeed to their greatest potential. Each instructor attends continuing education seminars, workshops, and tournaments, to add new skills and keep them current in their martial arts practice. The safety of our students is a number one priority at Kuk Sool Won™ of Oak Hill. All of the black belt instructors are CPR/First Aid Certified and have passed their Criminal Background Checks and FBI Fingerprint Checks.
WKSA World Tournament is an annual event held each October in Galveston, Texas that we participate in as a school as “Team Oak Hill” and look forward to each year. Tournament competition is very important for developing self-confidence and for increasing one’s martial art skills. The experience gained and the connection that is established with the Kuk Sool Won™ world family and friends are extremely important for understanding the larger picture of one’s training.
Attendance at the tournament is a crucial part of your journey in Kuk Sool Won™. The level of focus needed to stand and compete against fellow practitioners is the same level of focus needed to attain the next rank; for this reason, they must go hand in hand.

OUR THOUGHTS ON COMPETITION
There is a misconception that competition is bad; that self-esteem will be affected if a child loses. BUT to lose, is not to be a Loser. If a child can experience the thrill of winning and the disappointment of losing early in life through competitive sports, they will be well equipped for the reality of life.
Competition provides motivation to achieve a goal; to demonstrate determination, creativity, and perseverance to overcome challenges; and to understand that hard work and commitment leads to a greater chance of success.
Life is full of situations where there are winners and losers: a sports game; getting a job; bidding on a contract; not getting into the desired college. Children need to learn how to cope with disappointment and to be able to genuinely appreciate the good fortune, talents and abilities of the “winner” and then look forward to the next opportunity to try again.
Competition teaches us to dig deep and find resources we never knew we had; provides us with the opportunity to think outside the box and explore other ways to succeed. The pressure to win or succeed can often inspire more imaginative thinking and to develop additional skills.
We need to instill a winning attitude: A drive for excellence and victory. Instilling this winning attitude is one of the goals of a good instructor. When a child learns that given the right attitude, they can succeed at whatever they set their hearts and mind to, it can have an overwhelmingly positive impact on their self-esteem and on their future. Without healthy competition the concept of a winning attitude doesn’t exist.
The lesson through martial arts, is extended to life – do not fear competition, value its influence on you – it inspires people to greatness…and we all win!
