ABOUT US

Kuk Sool Won™ of Oak Hill Martial Arts
offers specialized classes for children (ages 4-6, 7-12), teens and adults (ages 13+), and Seniors 55+ as well as Women’s Self-Defense Workshops. Our focus is on more than just martial arts; we are committed to empowering students with important life skills that extend beyond the dojo. Through martial arts training, students learn valuable lessons in self-control, concentration, focus, teamwork, discipline, respect, commitment, leadership, character development, and courage.

Students progress at their own pace, based on their individual abilities, and are encouraged to train as often as their schedule allows. We offer age-specific classes (4-6, 7-12, 13+ adult, and Seniors 55+) and family-friendly sessions, allowing families to train together in a supportive, inclusive environment. Our classes provide high-quality martial arts instruction for men, women, children as young as age 4, and adults of all ages.

Our dedicated team of certified Black Belt Instructors consists of ten experienced instructors who have been training in Kuk Sool Won™ for 10-35 years. They are committed to helping students reach their highest potential. To stay current and continue growing as martial artists and educators, our instructors regularly participate in continuing education seminars, workshops, and tournaments.

The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority at Kuk Sool Won™ of Oak Hill. All of our Black Belt Instructors are CPR/First Aid certified, and have passed thorough Criminal Background and FBI Fingerprint Checks to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.

WKSA WORLD TOURNAMENT

The WKSA World Tournament, held annually each October in Galveston, Texas, is a highlight for our school, where we proudly compete as Team Oak Hill. It’s an event we eagerly anticipate each year. Tournament participation plays a crucial role in developing self-confidence and advancing martial arts skills. More importantly, it fosters meaningful connections within the global Kuk Sool Won™ community, helping students gain a broader perspective on their training journey.

Attending the tournament is an essential step in your progression within Kuk Sool Won™ and is required in order to qualify for rank testing. The focus needed to compete against fellow practitioners mirrors the concentration and discipline required to advance to the next level, making tournament involvement a key part of your overall training.

This family-friendly event brings together students of similar rank, age, and experience to compete in traditional forms, self-defense, and sparring before Black Belt judges. We ensure they are fully prepared through our special training sessions. These free tournament prep classes are held every Saturday morning from July through October, leading up to the tournament.

OUR THOUGHTS ON COMPETITION

There’s a common misconception that competition is detrimental, or that a child’s self-esteem will suffer if they lose. However, losing does not make someone a "loser." In fact, when children experience both the joy of winning and the disappointment of losing through competitive sports, they are better equipped to face life's realities.

Competition provides powerful motivation to set and achieve goals. It teaches determination, creativity, perseverance, and the understanding that hard work and commitment significantly increase the chances of success.

Life is full of situations with winners and losers: in sports, job interviews, contract bids, or even college admissions. It’s essential for children to learn how to handle disappointment gracefully, appreciate the talents and achievements of others, and look forward to the next opportunity to try again.

Through competition, we discover untapped strengths, develop creative problem-solving skills, and find new ways to succeed. The pressure to perform often sparks innovative thinking and personal growth.

As instructors, one of our key roles is to foster a winning attitude—a drive for excellence and success. When children learn that the right mindset can help them achieve their goals, it positively impacts their self-esteem and shapes their future. Without the presence of healthy competition, the very concept of a winning attitude becomes meaningless

The lessons learned through martial arts extend beyond the dojo. We should not fear competition; rather, we should embrace its ability to inspire greatness. In the end, it’s through competition that we all grow and win.
